Welcome to the guide on configuring local coordinate systems in SurPad 4.2. This tutorial will help you set up the appropriate coordinate system for your specific country, ensuring accurate and reliable surveying results.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open SurPad 4.2

Launch the SurPad 4.2 software on your device.

2. Access Project Settings

• Navigate to the "Project" tab.

• Click on "Project Manager"

• Click on "New" to add a new Project.

• In the section "Coordinate Systems Parameters Type" choose "Local parameters".

 • Enter your Project name and check other settings.

3. Select Coordinate System Parameters

• In the "Coordinate System" section, enter your Title for this Configuration.

4. Choose Your Country

• A list of countries will appear. Scroll through the list or use the search function to find your country.

• Select your country from the list.

5. Configure Local Parameters

Depending on the country you selected, SurPad 4.2 will provide a list of available local coordinate systems. Follow these steps:

Datum Selection:

• Choose the appropriate datum for your region. Common datums include WGS84, NAD83, and ETRS89.

Projection Method:

• Select the projection method used in your country. This could be UTM, Gauss-Kruger, or another method specific to your region.

Zone Selection:

• If your country uses zones (e.g., UTM zones), select the appropriate zone for your area.

Parameters and Transformations:

• Some regions require specific parameters or transformation methods. Ensure these settings match the official specifications for your country.

5.1. Manual entering of Coordinate System Parameters:

• Depending on your configuration, you can adjust Horizontal parameters: Ellipsoid Parameters, Projections Parameters, Seven-Parameters, Four-Parameters.

• Additionally you can set up vertical parameters: Vertical Control Parameters, Vertical Adjustment Parameters.

5.2. Importing files with Coordinate System Parameters:

• You can import the Plane Grid File. Supported formats: *GDS, *GSB, *GFS, *GRD, *GK2.

• You can import the Height Grid Correction File. Supported format: *EDS.

• You can import the Geoid File. Here you will need to choose Mode: Bilinear, Quadratic, Bi Cubic Spline. Supported formats: *GGF, *SGF, *UGF, *GSF, *GRD, *GTX, *BIN, *XYZ.

6. Save and Apply Settings

• After configuring the necessary parameters, click "OK" to confirm your settings.

• Your project is now set up with the correct local coordinate system.

Tips for Accurate Setup

Consult Local Surveying Authorities: Always verify the coordinate system parameters with local surveying authorities or official documentation.

Test Settings: Conduct a test survey to ensure the settings are applied correctly and that your results are accurate.

Update Regularly: Coordinate system parameters can change. Stay informed about updates or changes from local authorities.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues or inaccuracies:

Recheck Parameters: Ensure all parameters and settings match the official guidelines for your country.

Seek Support: Contact SurPad 4.2 support or consult an online community for assistance.

Review Documentation: Refer to the SurPad 4.2 user manual for detailed instructions and additional settings.

By following these steps, you can accurately set up and use local coordinate systems in SurPad 4.2, ensuring precise and reliable surveying data.

Step 4 is where it goes wrong for me. There doesn't seem to be any selecting of country. Just a list of parameters (ellipsoid / projections / seven-parameters / etc. etc). But no country selection or anything. Am i doing something wrong? I tried to put in the information manually after hours of searching online for the data, but my measurements are off by about 60meters at best.
