Configuring Local Coordinate Systems

Hello, colleagues!

SurPad 4.2 is professional surveying software. It has many useful features.

We often receive questions regarding assistance with setting up coordinate systems for various countries, including requests for geoid files containing elevation data for the country. Correct coordinate system settings allow you to obtain point coordinates with higher accuracy and localization, taking the terrain into account. Each country uses its own local coordinate system. The software has a built-in list of coordinate systems, but this list is not complete. In some countries, obtaining such data is quite difficult. Sometimes, you even have to pay for this data. Therefore, this issue is resolved by the end user. If you have the correct settings and want to share them, we will add them to our list of coordinate systems, and they will be available in the next software update. Most of our users configure the software themselves for their tasks.

In this case, I can recommend the following:

  • Request the data for setting up the coordinate system from your industry colleagues. Many surveyors work across the country, and they all have this data.
  • Contact the state land resources agency and request the settings for the required coordinate system.
  • Reach out to the local CORS network provider (there may be several: government and commercial), as they often encounter similar issues. Usually, the service provider has answers to such requests.
